Love. Death And Robots Volume Two Review

Is not living forever so bad?

I find it odd; I thought they titled the show Love, Sex, And Robots, and for the longest time that I assume the creators named it. Looks like I created a Mandela Effect, and I’m so proud; I could cry.

Anyway, Love, Death, And Robots is the continuation of 2019s animated shorts that range from 2D to 3D animation. The shorts are no longer than ten minutes; you can easily binge.

The first volume had a good amount of the different animation: A graphic novel 2D animation about an artist who wanted freedom, and a cartoonish 3D animation with robots exploring a vacant world.

Volume two offers the same styles of animation. For example, the one featuring teenagers running on ice. It has a gritty and dark graphic novel design; it makes it seem as if the world they live is hazardous. Another example is the 3D stop motion of the kids during Christmas time. It’s the best short. I could feel the tension these kids were sensing as they encountered Santa Claus.

Volume two has more photo-realistic animations, and it can get frustrating watching them as they appear the same. What keeps them from being boring is the storylines: the short Pop Squad has an intriguing story of Immortality and mortality.

The shorts always gear towards death (duh, death is in the title), and the human population would stop at nothing to achieve immortality to avoid extinction. Right now, people obsess about living forever, and we're possibly on the verge of cracking immortality. In the future, there’s a group of individuals who can live forever, but they can die from severe injuries and wounds. They’re amortal begins who may now walk the earth, and we don’t know it. For now, it’s a pipe dream, and we won't see it for a long time.

Overall, it’s a barrage of beautiful 2D and 3D animations. Yet, it can get overwhelming with the countless photo-realistic shorts, but a few make up for it with fascinating plotlines.

If you have nothing to watch, give Love, Death, And Robots a watch. You don’t want to upset the robot overlords now.
